Vacuum suction spider SSP for efficient handling of wooden board layers

For a prefabricated housing manufacturer, complete wooden board layers have to be fed into a sorting system. This process step is accomplished by an automated feed solution. The company was looking for an effective, reliable as well as space-saving solution. With a vacuum suction spider specially designed for the process, Schmalz was able to meet the requirements. The vacuum suction spider SSP-SBX was specially designed for handling unplaned, warped wooden boards. The suction spider was designed by experienced project managers. It is equipped with an area gripping system of type SBX. The grippers are especially suited to unplaned wood. The suction spider can grip complete layers with ease. The gripper system is equipped with a powerful blower. This, in combination with the intelligent valve technology, allows layers with gaps or boards with knot holes to be handled without any trouble. The gripping system closes uncovered suction cells automatically, which also increases the holding force. Height differences in the wooden boards can be compensated by the sealing foam. The compact and lightweight design of the vacuum gripping system makes use on a portal robot possible. A space-saving, efficient and reliable solution was able to be found for the process using the vacuum suction spider.
