An automotive supplier delivers panorama roofs weighing up to 30 kg to the OEMs. After being painted, these roofs are taken on a shelf truck to quality control. The panoramic roofs are inspected for quality defects, such as paint damage, on a holding device. In the past, this device was loaded and unloaded manually without the use of any lifting aids. The employees developed back problems as a result of constantly moving the roofs back and forth. To reduce the strain on staff and make the process more ergonomic, the company decided to invest in a vacuum lifter from Schmalz. The vacuum tube lifter JumboErgo, with a maximum load of 35 kg, meets the requirement for this work step. The workpiece is lifted and deposited using solely the power of the vacuum. A powerful vacuum generator provides the necessary holding force. The operator is able to finely adjust the vacuum in the lift tube by means of a twist grip, which allows for optimum precision when moving the panoramic roofs. A venting unit integrated in the operating element allows easy removal of the air-tight workpiece. In order to prevent marks on the workpiece, the suction pads on the double gripper are fitted with suction pad covers. The responsive column-mounted jib crane has a maximum load of 45 kg. The 6-meter long aluminum jib can swivel by up to 270 degrees, enabling it to cover a large working area. The column-mounted jib crane in combination with the tube lifter JumboErgo has made the process ergonomic and permanently taken the load off employees.
